I started DIY Looping in 2021 and never looked back!
Yes, I can e-mail the DIY LOOP app to you today!
It really is that simple.
My first experience using the DIY Loop app was actually not for myself. It was for my diabestie, Remy, who at the time was a 6 year old, wildly active 1st grader ready to take on the world with ice skates + a hockey stick.
This was back in 2019. Since then, things have changed… for the better!
It’s a lot less complicated to get set-up using the DIY Loop system. I’m not a tech genius, a web developer, or a coder…but I can follow the very well-written and very detailed instructions on the GitHub Loop Doc Page.
I started using the DIY Loop app in 2019 to manage Remy’s blood sugar. Then in 2021, his family helped me to get set up on the DIY Loop system managing my own blood sugar. It wasn’t until 2023 that I finally built the app myself… and surprise, surpise… it wasn’t that challenging. Okay, wait… it did take me all day that first time (with X-Code) and again the second time (Web Build), but now it’s smooth sailing! 😅
The DIY Loop system has changed my life in the best way and I didn’t understand how it would until I experienced it for myself.

Yes!! You can dose insulin, input carbs, set one of your own "modes" like exercise, menstrual, etc. You can also see the amount of "active carbs" and "active insulin" calculated to be in your system through the information input into the app. You can also view your blood sugar trend line on a graph with a predicted glucose value. Needless to say, you can keep your phone in your pocket.

Every 90 days. When I update my app, the updated app becomes automatically available for you in TestFlight and I will notify you it's time to download the updated app.
-
Nope, not anymore - as long as you are Looping using Dash Pods. Your entire insulin delivery management system is in the app on your phone.
-
No, it is not. Please please please, ensure your doctor is writing a prescription for Omnipod DASH pods and not the 5! Because DASH is not the newest system, you may have to be on your doctor about writing the correct prescription for pods.
-
A compatible phone, CGM, and insulin pump supplies. Check compatible options on the Git Hub Loop Doc Pages.
I use Dexcom G7, Omnipod Dash Pods, my iPhone 13Pro, and Apple Watch Series 8.
-
I recommend using the DIY Loop system with Omnipod Dash Pods because you won't be locked into a warranty commitment if you don't like the pump and/or system.
The Dash pods are obtained through the pharmacy benefits of your insurance, which is generally a lot quicker to receive and if you aren't thrilled with the system, you can easily switch back after 30/90 days (depending on your prescription).

If you like freedom, flexibility, and precision in your insulin dosing and blood sugar management, I would say the DIY Loop system is probably a great fit for you. If you also prefer the most up-to-date technology and compatibility between your devices and diabetes management systems, it's probably time to join the #WeAreNotWaiting community!
